Safe Schools Week

This week at WMS has been all about safe schools and showing kindness to others. Student council members organized different events each day and on Friday, students and staff participated in a sit in and a moment of silence to remember the lives lost to school violence.


Financial Literacy Concert for 7th graders

Weaving a high-energy, live rock performance with testimony of the artists’ life lessons on finance, Carter Hulsey and the band Me Like Bees, visited WMS to share with students how financial literacy and confidence enable them to make dreams realities. Google Expedition in American History Class

In Mrs. Kaasch’s 8th grade American History class, students explored WWI trenches, battlefields, and weaponry through a Google Expedition and Virtual Reality Goggles.  Students were able to take their knowledge of WWI to the next level with this Google Expedition as we took a close-up look at day-to-day life in the trenches and the impacts of new warfare technology. Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System – Testing Information & Dates

This school year, the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) Summative assessment replaces the Nebraska School Accountability (NeSA) tests in: English language arts and math for grades 3–8 Science for grades 5 and 8 This new, computer-adaptive culminating assessment measures student performance against Nebraska’s content area standards, showing how learning compares to expectations. Auditions for the 2018 Westside Color Guard will take place on the following days from 3:30-5:30 PM in the band room (Room 183).  Please wear athletic clothing.  No experience necessary. Upcycling in All About Business Class

In Dr. Bolamperti’s All About Business class, students are learning about entrepreneurship and product creation in many ways, including upcycling.  While applying their creativity, students used lids, containers and other previously utilized supplies to invent a phone holder, s’mores maker, spider trap, fountain and many more!

Congratulations Quiz Bowl Team

Both Westside A and Westside B Quiz Bowl Teams competed on Friday at Grace University. The “A” team earned a 2nd place finish (Brownell Talbot) and the “B” team fought hard, losing to Mission A in the first round.
